Overview
ECVC’s mission is “to help people with disabilities attain a higher quality of life through achievement of their vocational goals.” This mission is accomplished through a competent staff working with the individuals (clients) to insure that they find the best possible job according to their skills and desires.
More than 300 people with disabilities receive work training each year through the Eastern Carolina Vocational Center, a private, not for profit corporation. |

“Our whole purpose is to help people obtain jobs they would not be able to get on their own,” says Lisa Ward-Ross, Vice-President of Rehabilitation Services. “Working for us gives them work experience they would not get on their own and our job placement staff helps them move from here to a job in the community.”
ECVC provides short term rehabilitation training and long term employment for people with disabilities. It also offers free, on-site job training for employers who hire workers with disabilities.
“We provide a job coach to go with the person to work at no cost to the employer. Some of our people have limited reading abilities so we do a lot of accommodating in our training methods to help them to learn the job,” says Ward-Ross.
ECVC offers three primary programs designed to do this: Vocational Program, Adult Developmental and Vocational Program (ADVP) and Supported Employment. |
