Serving people with disabilities has been the umbrella of Eastern Carolina Vocational Center since 1965. Throughout the years, there has been change in how programs are presented and in staffing, however, these changes have kept ECVC’s program on top.

Through training, employees have been able to adjust to change to be leading edge when working with consumers and helping them find employment.

ECVC employees pride themselves on their level of care and concern for the consumer who enters any one of the programs offered. Consumers are number one at ECVC; and they, along with their caregivers, realize this from the beginning.

With a track record of success, ECVC has long standing relationships with many employers which give the clients more quality choices for employment.

ECVC encouragse self-expression, promote personal achievement, and lead to greater independence for people with disabilities. Referral Process

People with disabilities represent the single largest and most diverse minority in the U.S. One out of five Americans has a disability or approximately 49 million people. People with disabilities have better attendance and are more committed to their jobs. Families with a disabled member are more likely to support businesses that are disability friendly. Seventy two percent of working age people with disabilities have high school diplomas or a higher degree. Most people with disabilities want to work. Two out of three people with disabilities who are unemployed, say they would prefer to work. People with disabilities work or are trained to work in all kinds of professions. Tax incentives are in place to encourage employers to hire people with disabilities. The best reason to hire a person with disabilities is because that person is qualified.
