Home 9 News & Events 9 National Disability Employment Awareness Month Celebrating 55 years | 2020

For the safety of all, ECVC had to make the hard decision to cancel our traditional banquet (at Rock Springs with 350-400 in attendance & inspiring program) and try a NEW month-long multi-mini type of event this year. All plans are to resume our traditional banquet next year on October 7, 2021 – so, please mark your calendars!

This year in recognition of ECVC’s 55th, ADA’s 30th, and NDEAM’s 75th Anniversaries for the month of October, we would like to recognize the local employers that hire persons from ECVC’s Employment Services Program and promote a more inclusive workforce. Let’s get the word out!

The Americans with Disabilities Act has helped create a more inclusive environment, but more needs to be done regarding employment opportunities for professionals with disabilities. Unemployment numbers for people with disabilities have spiked due to COVID-19. During economic hardships, these individuals are often the first fired and last hired. Businesses must change this narrative to create and maintain meaningful employment opportunities for those in the disability community. It is time to recognize their talents and dedication and put them at the forefront of the hiring process. Businesses must look at the wide array of technology advance-ments to enhance accessibility in the workplace and do their part to guide the nation toward a truly inclusive workforce.
